Bee-keeping Education
The TGL plan to offer an educational programme, in a number of ways, working with local associations, and engaging all.
- A series of 'meet the bee-keeper' evening chats, with honey to taste and equipment on hand for visitors to handle.
- Aimed at the curious, children can only attend if with a adult.
- Hosting lectures on current bee-keeping topics of interest. Many high profile speakers will be teased by TGL to come along and share their thoughts.
- A series of evening lectures (late autumn) aimed to prepare those who would like to begin learning the practical elements of bee-keeping. Space in these lectures will be limited, so early booking is a must.
- Aimed at those close to deciding to take up the craft of bee-keeping
- A series of basic practical bee-keeping sessions aiming to set students up with the skills to maintain one or two hives in their own garden or an allotment. After working within a small group and with the same hive each week though a summer or two.
- Aimed at those wishing to take the BBKA Basic examination.
- School visits by prior arrangement, maybe as part of a science field trip, students will look into an observation hive, be given support materials for them to reflect upon once they have returned to their school, and have a chance to chat with the apiary manager – Mike Gill.
All education activities on site will be to the standards outlined by the BBKA.
