Mill Lane Acres Farm-start tenancy renewals complete for 2017/18

    Annual Tenancies at Mill Lane Acres, Tamar Grow Local’s farm-start project in the Tamar Valley for new growers and farmers are now complete for 2017/18 with business tenants Rabbit Acre, Tamar Valley Vines, Native Flower Farm and Cornucopiaalchemy taking up their plots and business support for another 12 months. The Naturally Vegan Plot have taken the decision not to renew their tenancy at Mill Lane Acres.

    Rachael Forster from Tamar Grow Local said: “We are delighted that most of our tenants have decided to stay on and grow their businesses at Mill Lane Acres for another year and look forward to a continued working relationship with them over the next 12 months. We wish all the best to The Naturally Vegan Plot with where their venture takes them next.”

    Mill Lane Acres was set up in 2015 with investment from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, UnLtd and The Plunkett Foundation to help kick-start horticultural business ideas with easy in/out tenancies, business support and equipment. Rachael continued: “Our tenancies are aimed with the new grower in mind, so short-term renewals, but with long-term potential. Tenancy terms can be adjusted each year under the direction of board of voluntary directors at Tamar Grow Local to help tenants manage their plots more efficiently and to help sustain and encourage tenants to grow their businesses.”

    Further plots are available for 2018 and each plot offers:

    1-3 acre parcels of land in the Tamar Valley

    Share of equipment including hand tools, bulk purchasing of agricultural contracting services, and a small van subject to appropriate licenses & training.

    Interested parties need to be living or working in the Tamar Valley or Plymouth and would like to either start their own horticultural business or expand on an existing business idea.  Tenants need to produce a business plan and a management strategy to identify how they will use the land and to demonstrate their growing idea is robust and commercially viable. Starter units are provided on an annual tenancy with the option to renew.
